Battling is a very important part of this site. It can reap huge rewards if done successfully, it also may have it's drawbacks. Most common form of fighting is a siege, this when an army attacks and city and must destroy it's walls and take it over by either killing all enemy soldiers or making them surrender, but there are other forms of fighting which will be spoken of further in this thread.
Chapter One: Attacking a City[/u]
Attacking a city is a difficult way to fight, but perhaps the most common for this style of RP. You may attack a city at any point so long as you have a garrison adjacent to the city you wish to attack, if you do not, it shall take your forces 12 hours for every city you need to pass through, if you are passing through enemy territory to get there, then they may decide to attack you while on the move, and if you pass through Rebel Territory then you may also be attacked or raided.
To attack the city you will need a good army, and if there are walls defending a city, you will need siege equipment. Before you can attack the city, your forces must prepare this takes 24 hours, which gives both sides a chance to prepare. Remember attacking a city is harder than defending, so a good force would scout before attacking.
Chapter Two: Conditions For Victory/Defeat[/u]
Winning a battle needs a healthly mix of leadership, might and tactics, not many battles can be won by just using one of these three forms.
To win a city battle you must either force your enemies to retreat or slaughter them so no more live. A newly gained city may have a lot of damage, so it is important to attack with a force which can also defend it incase another force attacks you.
To Lose you must either be forced to retreat or you will have to have your forces completely destroyed. When you retreat your forces will fall back to your nearest city or fort, if there is no city or fort, they will fall back to the nearest forest area to hide.
Chapter Three: Using Tactics[/u]
Tactics are another key element of this site, good tactics can equal good attacks and increased morale. However tactics cannot just be posted that they happen, you need to plan ahead of time for them, and pm the battle moderator or admin who is modding your battle. Once you have pmed him, you may post your tactic, but you must post at least 1 post before it can happen, you cannot just make them and execute them in seconds, count this time as being the time it takes for word to reach your captains and generals.
Chapter Four: Destroying the Walls[/u]
To get into a city you will need to firstly destroy the walls with may protect it. This is done by using Siege equipment, large weapons of war, capable of mass damage. A simple example of a Siege weapon would be the Onager, it is capable of firing large bolder like stones at a wall, slowly but surely breaking the stone work, and making it crumble to the ground, allowing your forces to advance inside the city.
Depending on the size of the city, what type of Siege weapons you have and how many will determine how soon the walls can crumble. An admin or Battle mod will post how long it shall take, when the time is up the mod will post the wall collapsing. You should enter as soon as possible to be sure reinforcements do not get to the walls before you.
